Services
Most of the cost and most of the risk in a HazMat scope is decided before anyone puts on a suit: in the survey, the plan and the assumptions. These are the services that sit around the decontamination work, and often precede it by years.
Mercury Management Plan (MMP)
A facility-wide plan covering where mercury is, how it behaves through the process, how personnel are protected, how waste is routed and how the operator evidences compliance. Written to be audited, not filed.
HazMat Investigations & Surveys
Systematic survey and sampling to establish what contaminants are present, in what form, at what concentration and where. That is the basis for every downstream cost estimate and method statement.
On-Site Chemistry & Analytical Support
Field chemistry and analytical support across product mediums, process infrastructure, environment and waste streams, so decisions are made on same-day data rather than laboratory turnaround.
Chemical Health Risk Assessment
Assessment of exposure routes and controls for personnel working in contaminated environments, including provision of a medical database where required.
Bespoke Training
HazMat training and certification built around the customer’s own assets, procedures and contaminants, not a generic syllabus. Generated under AIWT Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
Shutdown & Turnaround Supervision
Hazardous shutdown and turnaround supervision, mercury management audits and procedure writing, so the HazMat element does not become the critical path.
Spill Cleanup & Remediation
Response, containment, recovery and site remediation for mercury and hydrocarbon releases, with the arisings routed through the same managed disposal chain.
Engineering & Analytical Studies
Studies supporting decommissioning, disposal-route selection, waste-volume forecasting and treatment method selection ahead of committing to a scope.
Rapid Hydrocarbon Decontamination
THIS has been performing hydrocarbon decontamination of onshore and offshore process facilities since 2005. A non-corrosive, biodegradable surfactant and vapour suppression chemical is injected neat into the facility’s standard steam purge cycle at multiple injection points simultaneously. Steam acts only as a carrier; the chemical works at any temperature.
Every facility that has used this method during the purge phase of a shutdown has reached gas-free, LEL-free status in under 12 hours, against a process that normally takes days. It also breaks down hydrocarbon sludge and deposits and fully deactivates pyrophoric scale, and the resulting waste is very low COD for ETP acceptance.
Engineered Solution / Research & Development
THIS carries out extensive research and development, both independently and by commission, investigating chemical decontamination compatibility, efficacy and efficiency for in-field applications: in-situ mercury decontamination of subsea pipelines, rapid decontamination of production platforms, pressure vessels and FPSO/FSO tankers, performance parameters for encapsulation, solidification and amalgamation agents, PPE, steam applications, atomisation and dispersal technologies, and comparative algorithms for field and lab-based analytical methods.
With the support of our analytical chemists, partners and analytical unit manufacturers, THIS can design, implement and audit studies on behalf of or in conjunction with clients, universities and projects.
